1914年，袁世凯政府为统一币制，颁布《国币条例》，委托意大利雕刻师鲁尔治·乔治（Luigi Giorgi）设计袁大头银币。乔治作为天津造币厂首席雕刻师，在币模上留下签名以示版权。签字版袁大头为试铸样币，未正式流通，仅铸造几千枚，主要用于存档或赠予官员。币面袁世凯戎装像右侧边缘镌刻“L.GIORGI”竖排小字，签名笔划流畅，自然凹陷，与币面结合紧密.正面袁世凯五分侧面像，衣领褶皱、肩章纹路清晰，胸前勋章立体感强。背面嘉禾纹饰饱满，麦粒分叉，谷穗颗粒分明.当年铸造数量不多，再加上经历多年的风风雨雨，能完好保存到现在的更是少得可怜.承载着民国时期的政治、经济和文化信息，对研究那段历史有着重要的意义。In 1914, in order to unify the currency system, the government of Yuan Shikai promulgated the "National Currency Regulations" and commissioned the Italian engraver Luigi Giorgi to design the Yuan Datou silver coin.
