In 1914, in order to unify the currency system, the government of Yuan Shikai promulgated the "National Currency Regulations" and commissioned the Italian engraver Luigi Giorgi to design the Yuan Datou silver coin. George, as the chief engraver of the Tianjin Mint, left his signature on the die to indicate the copyright. The signed version of Yuan Datou is a trial mint sample, which is not officially circulated, and only a few thousand pieces are minted, mainly for archiving or gifting to officials. The right edge of the Yuan Shikairong statue is engraved with "L.GIORGI" in small vertical characters, and the signature strokes are smooth and naturally concave, which is closely integrated with the surface of the coin. The five-point profile portrait of Yuan Shikai on the front, the collar folds, the epaulette lines are clear, and the medal on the chest has a strong three-dimensional effect. The back Jiahe is fully decorated, the wheat grains are forked, and the grain grains are distinct. At that time, the number of castings was not much, coupled with the ups and downs of many years, it is even more pitiful that can be preserved to the present. It carries the political, economic and cultural information of the Republic of China, and is of great significance to the study of that period of history.
