This set of 36 volumes of "History of the North and South" was published by Shanghai Huashang Integrated Book Company in the year of Emperor Guangxu's Dingwei (1907). It is equipped with a wooden box for "History of the South and History of the North", with antique and elegant packaging. The entire set is well preserved and of high quality. The "Southern History" and "Northern History" are privately written general histories of the Southern and Northern Dynasties by Li Yanshou and his son during the Tang Dynasty. They were recognized by Emperor Gaozong of Tang and included in the official compilation of the "Twenty Four Histories", integrating historical materials in the form of general histories and supplementing details that were not covered by the authorities. It is a core classic for studying the history of the Northern and Southern Dynasties. This set of publications has neat handwriting and clear printing, which is of great significance in the circulation of versions. From the perspective of historical value, it provides a detailed record of the political changes, cultural integration, and social landscape during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, providing a key basis for sorting out this fragmented and diverse history; From the perspective of ancient book collection, its complete set and engraving techniques are rare. It not only carries the weight of historical narrative, but also has research value in the study of ancient book editions and publishing history. It is a first-hand document for historians to explore the history of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and a precious treasure in the eyes of ancient book collectors that combines historical and artistic significance. It has built a vivid cultural bridge for modern people to touch the historical context of the Northern and Southern Dynasties and glimpse the engraving style of the late Qing Dynasty.
