This Qing Dynasty Kangxi period wucai (five-color) appreciation dish is a classic representative of the 'enjoyable by both refined and popular tastes' style of Kangxi-era wucai porcelain. The dish is oval-shaped, suitable for display and viewing purposes. Its body is fine and sturdy, fully displaying the 'tight skin and bright glaze' characteristics of Kangxi porcelain. The dish's surface is primarily 'yellow-ground wucai'—the base glaze is bright yellow, over which the scene of 'Ladies Enjoying the Garden' is painted: the ladies’ garments are vividly colored (interweaving red, green, blue, etc.), their expressions graceful, and the scene lively, accompanied by landscape elements such as pine trees and pavilions, clearly demonstrating the Kangxi wucai standard of 'ornate yet layered decoration.' The rim is decorated with geometric patterns, harmonizing in a 'contrast of simplicity and complexity' with the central theme, reflecting a typical decorative logic of Kangxi wucai. The base bears the official mark 'Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi' (Made in the Kangxi Period of the Great Qing), with neatly executed script, a standard mark of official kilns from the Kangxi reign. This piece not only embodies the period characteristics of wucai porcelain with 'vivid colors and realistic patterns' but also carries the lifestyle interests of Qing literati through its 'ladies' motif.' It is a tangible representation of the Kangxi official kiln practice of 'balancing aesthetics with cultural significance,' combining the craftsmanship value of Kangxi porcelain with the cultural significance of Qing folk life, making it a prized item in the collection of Qing-period wucai porcelain.
