This piece is a pair of square-mouthed vases from the Song Dynasty, made for the imperial court's exclusive use at the Jun kiln. The two vessels are uniform in size and symmetrical in shape. One is finished with Jun kiln black glaze and the other with Jun kiln transmutation glaze. Both vases are decorated with gilt-painted Buddha figures and inscribed patterns, representing the pinnacle of Song Dynasty Jun kiln wares made for the imperial court. They combine profound historical ritual significance, exceptional craftsmanship and artistic value, and remarkable rarity in collections. These vases fully demonstrate the top craftsmanship of Jun kiln wares reserved for the imperial court. The bodies are fine and solid, precisely shaped, with smooth bases reflecting the strict standardized production techniques of the official Jun kilns. In terms of glaze, one vase features black Jun glaze, which is glossy and lustrous like lacquer, smooth and impurity-free, with a soft, restrained shine; the other vase features transmutation glaze, exhibiting a kaleidoscope of colors, characteristic of the classic 'one color entering the kiln, myriad hues exiting the kiln' phenomenon. Colors such as rose purple and crabapple red are likely visible, transitioning naturally and smoothly, with a dense network of fine craquelure, fully displaying the Jun kiln's transmutation glaze charm of 'ever-changing, impossible to replicate.' The gilt decoration on the body is exquisitely crafted, tightly integrated with the glaze. The Buddha figures are outlined with precision and express lively expressions, while the inscriptions are neatly formed with fluid brushstrokes. Even after centuries, traces of gold sheen remain, further highlighting their distinguished status as imperial objects. In today's collectors' market, first-class Song Dynasty official Jun kiln wares consistently achieve record-breaking prices. This pair, due to its completeness, classic glaze combination, refined gilt decoration, and clear imperial use, not only possesses immense historical and artistic value but also holds strong potential for preservation and appreciation. Its market reference value remains high, making it a core rare item in the high-end collection market.
