/The *lei* was a large wine vessel and ritual object from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, characterized by a small mouth, broad shoulders, deep body, ring foot, and looped handles on both sides of the shoulders. Kui Long Pattern: An ancient decorative motif originating from Shang and Zhou Dynasty bronze ware, representing an early form of dragon imagery. It typically features a single horn, one foot, an open mouth, and a coiled tail, symbolizing majesty and auspiciousness. The pink-green glaze is an exquisite glaze color first developed by the Longquan kilns of the Southern Song Dynasty, later inherited and further refined by the imperial kilns of the Song Dynasty and the Jingdezhen kilns of the Ming and Qing dynasties This vessel is entirely glazed with a pale greenish-blue glaze, exuding a delicate and soothing elegance, like the luster of jade—soft, warm, and radiant yet understated. It perfectly inherits the grandeur of bronze lings: featuring a broad mouth, a constricted neck, a flared shoulder, and a slightly domed belly, with undulating lines that mimic the resilience and vigor of bamboo strips. While retaining the weighty presence of bronze, it softens and refines this quality through the language of porcelain. The decoration is nothing short of extraordinary, employing the underglaze impressed relief technique (historically known as "gonghua" in the Qing court). This highly challenging decorative method requires carving textured motifs into the clay body before glazing and firing, allowing the designs to emerge faintly beneath the glaze—creating a perfectly symmetrical, harmonious beauty akin to mirrored reflections. The vessel is adorned with five layers of mid-Western Zhou-style relief夔龙纹, densely arranged yet orderly, with distinct hierarchical layers. The large zun of Qianlong period in Qing Dynasty with celadon glaze and carved ancient kui dragon patterns is a monumental masterpiece that epitomizes the grandeur of an era, embodying the beauty of form, the purity of glaze, the refinement of decoration, the intricacy of craftsmanship, and the prominence of heritage.
