This is a jade human figurine dating back to the Shijiahe Culture period, approximately 4,200–4,000 years ago, which carries the profound codes of the prehistoric civilization in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Carved from yellowish-brown jade, the figurine features mottled patina on its surface after thousands of years of vicissitudes, like traces dyed by time. Its overall shape is distinctive: the upper part resembles a crown, outlined with neat lines that exude a simple and unsophisticated sense of hierarchy; the middle part is sculpted into a human face with protruding round eyes—like mysterious orbs that seem to perceive the heaven and earth—paired with a minimalist nose, while the details of the mouth are hidden in the texture, and the hollowed-out designs on both sides add a touch of vividness; the lower part has a well-proportioned shape with a hidden small hole, which is likely a "spirit-communicating" device used to connect with the heaven and earth during sacrificial rituals.
